Tell CNN to stop echoing FOX News

This week, CNN promoted a story that originated on FOX News, which was a naked attempt by FOX to smear President Obama and Attorney General Holder. FOX is promoting the idea that the Justice Department is unwilling to prosecute voting rights cases when the victims are White and the perpetrators are Black. And now CNN is lending FOX News' race-baiting mainstream credibility.

It's critical that we hold them accountable. Help us send a message to CNN chief Jon Klein. Demand they do real reporting and set the record straight once and for all.

Here is the text of the message we'll send to Jon Klein, head of CNN, unless you provide your own.

Dear Mr. Klein,

I'm outraged that CNN has chosen to echo a recent FOX story that relies on blatant race-baiting and selective reporting. The story aired on Tuesday, July 6th, and featured Kyra Phillips -- it concerned the U.S. Department of Justice and a case against the New Black Panther Party. The piece follows the storyline of FOX -- which implies that President Obama and Attorney General Holder don't care about protecting the rights of White voters -- and completely misses previous reporting that provides a very different picture.

While I might expect this from FOX, I expect better from CNN. I am asking that you do your viewers a favor and set the record straight.

FOX regularly pushes slanted, incomplete, distorted stories, and uses them to whip up racial fear and paranoia and smear Black leaders and officials. But it's shocking and unacceptable for a news outlet like CNN, which positions itself as a credible, mainstream source of news and analysis, to uncritically echo FOX's dishonest race-baiting.

This isn't the first time that CNN has echoed distorted and inaccurate stories from FOX, helping that network succeed in whipping up racial fear and paranoia. I'm asking that CNN stop spreading distortions from FOX news, and that you do better reporting on this case.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
