Tips & Pointers
-
Have materials ready to distribute. You can get them here.
- Notify the press about your event (skeleton media alert is here, along with a link to search for media contacts), and prepare someone to be the official press contact. Make sure the press contact is easily identifiable.
- Make sure you have a spokesperson who is willing and able to talk with the press during the event. Make sure the spokesperson is well prepared with talking points (a link to talking points is here).
- Identify someone to take photos of the event and someone to do an informal count of how many people are there.
- If you want signs, get folks together beforehand to make them.
- If you're planning to set up a laptop (or several) with wi-fi to have people sign petitions, make sure you test the system beforehand.
- Organize a list of speakers for the event. Help speakers identify topics and figure out a very short time limit for each speech. Choose an emcee who will keep the rally on message and on time.
- Make sure your emcee reminds folks frequently how they can get involved. The most important way that people can be plugged is to sign the petition, because then they're hooked up for future actions, so have the emcee and speakers give out the web address www.colorofchange.org/jena. Make sure folks have a copy of one of the flyers.
- After the rally, let us know how it went, and upload any photos that you want us to share with other ColorOfChange members (the link to tell us how it went and upload photos is here).
